Distant Prayer

2004

How did I get so swept away?
How did I find myself
caught in a flood today?
With the river rushing, pouring over me,
pressing in upon my breast
some hidden need I cannot see

Distant Prayer
down on my knees again
tears roll down
for the aching in my heart
Lifting you up
crying out unto the One
who can comfort you in all your struggles
Please don't tell me not to care
not to feel, not to share your trouble,
For the burden in my heart
is a privilege to bear.

I sense you wrestling far away,
and though I'm deeply moved,
there is nothing I can say.
But there is One who understands your every need;
out of His love for you,
He's raised me up to intercede

Distant Prayer
down on my knees again
tears roll down
for the aching in my heart
Lifting you up
crying out unto the One
who can comfort you in all your struggles
Please don't tell me not to care
not to feel, not to share your trouble,
For the burden in my heart
is a privilege to bear.

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
I will not forget you!

See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.
