First Rain

1986

My two most favorite sounds in the world are that of the rain, and the purring of a cat.

I actually began writing this piece when I was about 8 years old.  I knew what I wanted the piece to do, and I wrote the first section, but I didn't have the technical ability at that time to realize my concept.  I completed the piece when I was 16.

This is the first rain of the season, the first rain after a long dry spell.  The rain begins about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, and continues until sunset.  It then eases, a calm before the storm; then shortly after dark, the storm breaks and continues throughout the night.  Finally, in the morning, the rain ceases, and the world is washed clean and new and beautiful.

So sit back, close your eyes, and listen to the rain fall.

"As surely as I live," declares the Sovereign Lord, "I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live."
