A Prayer for Grace in Suffering
Wednesday, May 15, 2024
Lord, grant me the
Grace,
Humility,
Patience, and
Courage,
to accept and endure whatever suffering you may permit in my life,
knowing that nothing you permit me to suffer
can exceed what you have already suffered on the cross on my behalf, for
“Christ our Lord that way hath trod;”
believing that you will use it for my good and for your glory;
confident that it is merely for a season;
and even if it should be the season that concludes my mortal life on earth,
you have promised me an eternity in your glorious presence, where
“There shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain,
for the old order of things has passed away.”
A recovery of the old sense of sin is essential to Christianity. Christ takes it for granted that men are bad. Until we really feel this assumption of His to be true, though we are part of the world He came to save, we are not part of the audience to whom His words are addressed.
