An Adaptation of Psalm 124

“If the Lord were not on our side,”
Let the faithful children of God now say—
“If the Lord were not on our side,
these evil men who rise up against us
would swallow us alive.

They mock and deride us;
they regard us with hatred and contempt.
They would steal our nation and enslave the people;
they pervert justice and would strip us of all liberty.
We would be driven from our homes
and cast into poverty and bondage.”

Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us as prey to their teeth!
We shall escape as a bird from the snare of the fowlers;
The snare shall be broken, and we shall escape.
Our help is in the name of the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.
