Should Christians Pray for Miracles?

Monday, August 10, 2020

Do you ever feel as though you have no right to ask God to act powerfully on your behalf?  That your life is insignificant, and that you're not worthy of His divine intervention?  Have you ever felt that only exceptional people and plans merit an appeal to God's exceptional power?

For decades we have lived among a strongly anti-theistic culture.  But I would argue that the force that has labored to keep Christians silent about their faith is the same force that lies to you about your worthiness to receive God's divine grace.

Child of God, you have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb!  It is Jesus who makes you worthy, having washed you of all uncleanness, and God loves you dearly!  Furthermore, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

James writes, “You have not because you ask not.” (James 4:2)  Jesus urges us to ask!  He says,

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!  When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples.  This brings great glory to my Father.”
“You didn’t choose me.  I chose you.  I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”
“Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.  Until now you have asked nothing in My name.  Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”

Is this for us alone?  By no means!  The outpouring of God's grace and power demonstrates His great love to an unbelieving world.  As Jesus stated in the verses above, it brings glory to God.

The unbeliever sees Christianity as nothing more than a set of beliefs by which we order our lives and around which we form our social groups.  But the power of God acting in our lives is what demonstrates our faith to be much, much more.

Consider the impact that was made by healing just one beggar at the temple gate in Jerusalem. (Acts 3:1-4:4)  Many people witnessed this event, and thousands were saved!

Christians, we are on the brink of a great end-time harvest.  God is getting ready to pour out His Spirit on all nations for the greatest awakening and revival of all time!  So be encouraged to ask and seek God's power to heal, to save, and to deliver.  And be prepared to share your testimony of God's great mercy with many, that you, too, may have a share in this abundant harvest.

Paul writes,

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him.  This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.  Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else — not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.  And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

All authority has been given to Jesus.  He has filled us with His Holy Spirit, and we, the church, are His hands and feet and voice on this earth.  So let's step forward in faith and bring that power to bear for the glory of God the Father.

I will sing of Your strength;
in the morning I will sing of Your love,
for You are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.

O My Strength, I sing praises to You,
for You, O God, are my defense,
my loving God,
my God of mercy.

— Psalm 59:16-17
