August is Farm Animals Month!
The Bible teaches that God desires for us to share our bread with the hungry, to provide shelter for the homeless, and clothing for the naked. (Isaiah 58:7) As summer begins to wane and harvest time approaches, would you consider donating one or more farm animals to bless a poor family? Here are some great options!
Chickens — $11 a pair
A pair of chickens can produce up to 40 dozen eggs a year, and their chicks can grow into a flock that will provide nourishment and income for years to come.
Rabbits — $11 a pair
A pair of rabbits will help provide income and ensure a nutritious diet for growing families as they produce up to 40 bunnies a year!
Whoever is generous will be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.
Pigs — $65 a pair
A pair of pigs produces a litter of piglets every year, providing both food and income.
Lambs — $130 a pair
Lambs are a wonderful way to bless a poor family, providing wool for income and milk to drink. A pair of sheep can produce lambs that can be sold at market, and they are also a source of meat.
The wicked borrow but never pay back; but the righteous are generous and give.
Goats — $140 a pair
Goats are hardy and can live in almost any climate. They produce milk and wool, they can bear two kids a year, and their manure is good fertilizer.
Camels — $345 each
Camels can work long hours in the heat and are used for plowing, transportation and hauling goods. Where trucks quickly sink into sand, camels can carry up to 330 pounds across a desert with no problem. Camel milk is part of many diets in Rajasthan, one of the hottest and driest places in India, and camel wool can be woven into cloth.
[The one who fears the Lord] gives generously to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.
Cows — $375 each
Cows provide a lot of good milk to drink, and to make yogurt, cheese and butter! (And let's be honest; where would we be without butter and cheese???) Their calves can be sold for income or used to produce even more dairy products for additional income.
Water Buffalo — $460
A water buffalo provides transportation, and serves as plough animal, cart hauler, and milk giver.
A generous person will prosper, and anyone who gives water will receive a flood in return.
How much did you spend on yourself last month, and what did you spend it on? Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21) Imagine the eternal Return On Investment that a generous lifestyle will produce... not only as a blessing to those who receive your gifts, but also in the righteous character it develops in your own life! Will you participate in August Farm Animals Month by donating one of the gifts above? Or visit Gospel for Asia or World Vision for additional options.
