Eternal Rewards

Sunday, December 26, 2010

Jesus taught His followers, "Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you."  (John 6:27)  Think about how you spend your time, your money, and your labor.  Are you working for things that have eternal significance?  Are you laboring for things that will produce eternal rewards?  It can be a challenge to move beyond the pursuit of mere pleasure and entertainment, to things of more lasting significance.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:1-3
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light.  It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.  If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
1 Corinthians 3:12-14

How long, O Lord?  Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and every day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes,
lest I sleep the sleep of death;
Lest my enemy say,
"I have prevailed against him";
Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I fall.

But I trust in Your unfailing love;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
for He has been good to me.

— Psalm 13
