Cherokee Hatband

I made this hatband with and for my Cherokee friend, using peyote stitch and Miyuki Delica 11/0 beads.
Before we started, I sketched out the design on a hex grid. Probably would have been even better to use a brick layout, but honestly, it didn't occur to me to check to see if that type of graph paper was available. It is.
The letters at the back say "Cherokee" in the Cherokee language.
In order to size the band just right, I stitched the letters for the back section, and then we each started at the arrows on either side of the back section, working our way to the front. We joined the two front sections, and then added an equal number of rows of red beads on either side of the Cherokee letters until the band was exactly the right size for the hat.
